Welcome to Story Time with Mom

A place that takes you back home, because every mother has a story worth hearing.

I have interviewed mothers and documented their stories, each unique yet bound by a common thread of sacrifice—a reality society often expects but rarely questions.

As you read, I encourage you to reflect on these questions:

Why is motherhood equated with sacrifice?

What societal gaps make balancing work and motherhood so challenging?

Why are mothers held to rigid expectations, and is a father’s journey judged the same way?

After reading, I hope that next time you meet a mother, you will ask about her story—not just as a mother but as the woman behind the mother.

“Being a parent is the most selfish decision you'll ever make, but it is the most selfess job you will ever have"

About

Storytime is hosted by Emily Shao

Growing up, I watched the quiet sacrifices my mother gave for my sister and I. I saw her juggle her work with early-morning school runs, often sacrificing her own passions and aspirations to ensure her family was happy. But what struck me most was how rarely people acknowledged the person behind the title of "Mom." Because instead of being just "Emily's Mom", she is still "Yu Jing".

This platform is created to collect and honor stories that reveal the identities behind motherhood. I hope these voices inspire you to start conversations in your own community, and to bring greater awareness to the unseen dimensions of being a mother.
